3rd EVO 2014

         

           English Voice Olympic is one of the English Debating Club (EDC) Untirta’s events proudly present The 3^rd  EVO 2014. The 3^rd  EVO 2014 is compilation of scientific competition in linguistic field with English as communicational media. The purpose of this event is to facilitate participants in improving their skill and talents with sportive atmosphere competition. To achieve the purpose, we present you The 3^rd English Voice Olympic 2014 (EVO) on November 14t^h – 16^th2014 with ” Youth is the Voice of Future” as its theme.

          EVO 2014 has 3 Competitions for high school student through Banten Province. The purpose of this event is to facilitate participants in improving their skill and talents with sportive atmosphere competition. The competitions are: Debate, Speech and News Casting. 

THE COMPETITION

1.     DEBATE

Debate is a competition between debate teams from all over Banten, representing their high schools. The system used in this competition is Asian Parliamentary System. This competition consists of 3 Preliminary Rounds. In each round, the winning team will get a victory point (VP) which will be accumulated with the score obtained. The points they get will determine which teams will advance to the next round, until remaining 2 teams will meet in the final round. The objectives of this contest are to develop a critical mindset, sharpen knowledge in various aspects, build confidence for public speaking, and raise the spirit to compete supportively.

2.     SPEECH

Speech is a competition where participants will deliver a speech from the essay that they have made based on the theme which is determined by the committee. The time given to each participant to deliver his/her speech is at least 5 minutes and maximum 7 minutes. The aspects which will be assessed in this contest are the content of speech, structure and grammar, pronunciation, expression, their way of presenting the speech, mastery of speech, and timeliness. The purposes of convening this contest are to improve the ability to speak in English with oral speech and improve confidence to speak in front of public.

3.     NEWS CASTING

News Casting is a competition where participants will be dressed as a news anchor on television by using English. The news which will be read by participants has been prepared by the committee and will be displayed on the screen. Participants are required to pay attention to the appearance, articulation, pronunciation, and appropriate eye contact as a famous and professional news anchor does. The purposes of this competition are to train participants in the articulation and pronunciation in English and also facilitate the interest and ability of participants to become a professional news anchor.

Speech                  : 30 participants

Every school is allowed to participate in every competition with no more than 3 teams/ participants representing the school in each competition.

Time                                                  : Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m

To complete the registration, please bring:

· 2x3 photographs (4 pcs.), with participant’s name written on the back side

· 2 copies of valid student or ID card

· A copy of transfer payment (if the money is transferred to committee’s account)
